HISTORY

Mocha Moms, Inc. began with the publishing of a newsletter called Mocha Moms in the hopes of connecting with other at-home mothers of color across the country. The newsletter was intended to encourage these mothers to feel good about their choice as well as to provide information to help them be the best and most important influence in their children's lives. The first Mocha News was distributed to over 100 moms across the country in the spring of 1997. From this newsletter the original moms decided to form a support group called Mocha Moms, Inc. The first support group meeting was held in October of that year, in Cheverly, MD. There are now over 100 chapters throughout the United States and the organization is continually growing and evolving to meet the needs of our moms, their families, and the communities they live in.

Mocha Moms, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Mocha Moms, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, socio-economic level, education, or religion. Anyone who supports the mission and purpose of Mocha Moms, Inc. is welcome to join.

~ ~ Message From the President ~ ~

This is my very first term as President and while I’m anxious about the upcoming year, at the same time I am so excited and proud to be part of such a diverse group of women that share similar interests such as forming strong, lasting friendships and dedication to family, education and our community.  We strengthen these bonds through family nights, Mom’s nights, annual holiday parties and picnics, as well as monthly support group meetings.  Last year we had the opportunity to participate in the March of Dimes for Babies Walk-a-thon, host an Education Information Exchange and donate school supplies to a local school.  This year we will continue our tradition of community outreach and the fundraising that supports these activities.

Mocha Moms is an incredible group of women with a fantastic group of supportive Mocha Dads and Kids.  While many of our members are at-home moms, many also work full-time or part-time outside the home, have home businesses and are students.

We welcome all who support our mission.  So, take a look around our site and if you would like to learn more about our chapter, please join us at one of our chapter events. For additional information, please contact us at Solanocountymm@yahoo.com.
